Tax preparation for Texas contractors and service businesses

We prepare business returns for Texas contractors and service businesses, plus the owner's 1040 when it ties to the business. You get a return built from reconciled books and one flat quote after a 15-minute call.

The work

What we prepare: books first, then the return

We prepare federal business returns: Form 1120 for C corporations, 1120-S for S corporations, 1065 for partnerships and multi-member LLCs, and Schedule C for sole proprietors. When the owner's personal Form 1040 is tied to the business, we prepare that too, so the K-1 and the 1040 match. Our rule is books first, then the return. We prepare the return from reconciled books, not a shoebox of receipts. Every number traces back to a transaction we already matched to a bank statement. That means fewer guesses, fewer questions at filing time, and a return that shows what actually happened in your business. If your books aren't reconciled yet, we fix that first.

Who this is for

Texas contractors and service businesses: roofers, HVAC and electrical crews, landscapers, cleaners, consultants, and the like. Owner-operators who wear every hat and want the return handled by a team that understands subcontractors, job costs, and 1099s. Businesses that are behind get the most out of this. If your books are months or years out of date, or you missed a filing, start with our catch-up and cleanup service. We bring the records current, then prepare the return from them. You don't need everything figured out before you call; the 15-minute call is where we sort out what's missing. One limit: we don't prepare stand-alone personal returns. The 1040 has to be tied to a business we work with.

How it works

Four steps. First, a 15-minute call: we learn your entity type, tax years, and the shape of your books. Second, you get a flat quote in writing, and you sign an engagement agreement. Third, you send what we ask for: last year's return, bank and card statements, payroll reports, 1099s and K-1s, loan statements, and equipment purchases. We reconcile, prepare, and walk you through the return by phone before anything is filed. Fourth, you e-sign the authorization and we file. Most returns go out within 10 business days once the books are reconciled. We e-file as an Authorized IRS e-file Provider. You get a copy of everything we file.

Pricing: one flat quote, never hourly

We quote after a 15-minute call. You get one flat price, in writing, before any work starts. No hourly billing, no surprise add-ons, and no fee tied to the size of your refund or what you owe. The price depends on your entity type, the number of tax years, the condition of your books, the number of owners and K-1s, and whether the owner's 1040 is included. If you're already on Books Right, our monthly bookkeeping service, the books are done and reconciled, so the quote is simpler and the work goes faster. You see the price and the scope in writing before you agree to anything. The work happens all year, not in a panic in March.

Who signs, and what we can and can't do

A paid preparer signs every return we prepare and puts a PTIN, the IRS preparer ID, on it. Returns are signed by Brandon Thompson, PTIN on file. Credentials: PTIN. We can't represent you before the IRS. For anything else, we refer you to an enrolled agent or tax attorney. Privacy: we use your return information only to prepare your return, and share it only as the law allows or with your signed consent. Our privacy notice comes with your engagement agreement.

Year-round, not just April

Tax doesn't start in April. We work all year. Quarterly estimates: we calculate them from your current books, so you're not guessing. Extensions: if a return needs more time, we file the extension before the deadline. An extension gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. Texas franchise tax: the report is due every May 15, and we remind you well ahead so it doesn't slip. 1099 season: January means 1099s for your subcontractors. We collect W-9s during the year, so January is a review, not a scramble. Pair this with monthly bookkeeping and the return at year-end is mostly done before the year ends.

Common questions

Questions owners ask

Do you prepare returns for LLCs?

Yes. By default, a single-member LLC reports on Schedule C and a multi-member LLC files a 1065. Either one can elect to be taxed as a corporation, which means a 1120-S or 1120. We confirm which one applies to you before we quote, so the price matches the work.

What do I need to send you?

Last year's return, bank and card statements, payroll reports, 1099s and K-1s you received, loan and equipment statements, and a list of owners with their ownership percentages. If you're a bookkeeping client, we already have most of it. We'll send you a checklist after the 15-minute call.

Can you do my personal return too?

Yes, when it's tied to the business: your K-1 income, owner pay, or Schedule C. We prepare the 1040 alongside the business return so the numbers match, and you answer one set of questions instead of two. We don't prepare stand-alone personal returns that have no business behind them.

What if the IRS sends me a letter or opens an exam?

Send it to us right away. We'll read it with you and help you gather the records. Whether we can speak for you at the IRS depends on our credentials, listed on this page. If we can't represent you, we'll refer you to an enrolled agent or tax attorney. Deadlines on IRS letters are short, so don't wait.

My books are behind. Can you still file my return?

Yes, but the books come first. We catch up and reconcile your records, then prepare the return from them. Penalties and interest keep building until a late return is filed, so the sooner we start, the less they grow. We'll tell you the plan and the flat price on the 15-minute call.

Do you charge by the hour or take a cut of my refund?

Neither. You get one flat quote in writing after a 15-minute call. It doesn't change with the size of your refund or what you owe. If the scope changes, we tell you before we do the work, and you approve a new flat price in writing.
